Motocross – Round 12 (Hangtown, Fill in Ride) – Kevin Moranz

Greetings! Wild weekend to say the least. I got a phone call Thursday night before the race and was given the opportunity to take a fill-in ride for Joey Savatgy for the weekend.

We hopped on the opportunity to get on equipment I could not buy if I wanted to and we made the best of it. It was really cool to work with the whole Rocky Mountain team and get the experience of how a factory-level team operates with little to no pressure on me. It was the last race of the season; the suspension was still set up for Joey and the team knew that. We worked well with each other all day making adjustments to get me more comfortable on the bike and we got better every time on the track. Changing suspension settings every time we came off the track and a full suspension swap in-between moto 1 and 2 which made all the difference. Could barely hold onto the bike through the breaking bumps in moto 1 because everything was still too stiff, moto 2 was a different story and I pushed to the best finish of my career with 11th in the 2nd moto and my best overall of my career of 14th.  P20 – QualifyingP17 – Moto 1P11 – Moto 2Overall – P14  National Points scored: 14Total for 450 MX Series: 26
Takeaways

The biggest thing I learned is that I belong in that kind of environment and being on a factory-level team did not scare me even in the slightest. I proved to myself and the team that I work really well with everyone and all the information provided such as team spotters, line choices, suspension, and mechanics. I kept a good mindset all day even though the bike was not set up for me and I made the best of the opportunity. Was a valuable experience I will take with me until we find a place on one of these teams long-term.
THE TEAM LET ME WEAR MY CURRENT GEAR
This was pretty cool because yes I took this opportunity for 1 weekend, but the team allowed me to wear my gear and still represent all of the companies that were behind me all year.
