The Frescados Tortillas Spring Creek National signified the official start of the second half of the 2022 season, offering a fresh start of sorts to reset and finish the summer strong. The overall efforts from privateer riders throughout the 50th anniversary season has been impressive, to say the least, and that trend continued at Spring Creek. For the first time this season a 250 Class rider was deserving of recognition as Derek Kelley enjoyed one of the best outings of his career. The AEO Powersports KTM rider equaled his career-best finish of 11th overall thanks to impressive 14-12 moto scores in a deep and talented field of 250 Class talent. It’s the third time Kelley has finished inside the top 15 this summer, continuing what has become a breakout season for the experienced rider out of California. As a result of his Spring Creek performance, Kelley earned the distinction of being the first 250 Class rider of 2022 to receive Privateer Power accolades.
