2023 SUPERCROSS – TAMPA – TPJ RACE REPORT

From TPJ Racing

The Sunshine State welcomed round 6 of Monster Energy Supercross to its first real rain race of the season.  The rain held off during the day qualifying, but the skies opened up right as the night show began.  The track quickly became super slick and rutted, meaning control and patience were keys to not only winning the race, but finishing it as well.

Garrett Hoffman #242 – once again thrived in qualifying and gained a spot in the night show.  He got a good start in his heat race and had a few intense battles for the 6 minutes + 1 lap race. He ultimately finished in 11th just two spots away from a Main Event transfer.  In the LCQ, he was tracking to be in the mix, but a crash caused him to fall back and end his night.

In his words: “Positive outweighs the negatives [in Tampa[. Good starts just need to find a little more! Something to build off of for Dallas.” – GH242

Our other two 250SX East riders, Logan Boye #119 along with Brian “JR” Saunier #971 both struggled to put together a solid lap time on this Tampa track; resulting in an early night for both of them.  They are working this week on their starts and endurance in hopes of making the night show when racing returns in 2 weeks in Dallas, TX.

Brian “JR” Saunier, in his words, “Start of the Supercross season for me here in Tampa! Had an injury about a month ago, didn’t expect to be racing this soon.  Had about a week of riding in before Tampa so had no expectations going into it.  But sure was a whole lot of fun, can’t wait for Arlington, Texas! Like to thank everyone for helping me get to where I am today!”

Austin Cozadd #512 – has continued to struggle in qualifying due to some lingering preseason injuries.  He’s starting to feel stronger and connected with the bike more, he’s hoping to qualify for the night show in Dallas this weekend.

Supercross is a proud partner in hope with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Together with the Supercross community we raised $211,365 dollars for St. Jude in 2022.  To read more about the mission or to donate, click here.
