TPJ Racing – Pro Motocross – Round 6

SOUTHWICK, MA | JULY 8, 2023 | SOUTHWICK

The sands of Southwick at Moto-338 in Massachusetts are one of the toughest obstacles riders will attempt to overcome all year.  Deep ruts form early on, and the unpredictable nature of the terrain cause even the most seasoned riders to struggle.

Three of our five riders made it into the Main Moto’s of the day at Southwick.  Logan Boye and Brian “JR” Saunier both made the attempt, but the sand got the better of them both in qualifying ending their day early.

In the 250MX Class, Hunter Cross started the day with an impressive 32nd in qualifying, meaning he could bypass the consolation race.  Every racer will tell you, especially in Pro Motocross, the less time you have to spend on the track the better.  Hunter went into Moto 1 feeling good and making progress each lap eventually finishing in 25th place.  Moto 2 wasn’t as kind to him, early on in the race a pile up in front of him caused him to go off the track.  He finished Moto 2 in 36th place and took 32nd overall for the day.

In the 450MX Class, Romain Pape was ready for some redemption after a disappointing Red Bud appearance.  He qualified 25th overall, his weakest placing so far this season, but went on to gain Championship points with finishes of 23|19 for 21st overall for the day.  He currently sits 15th in points, just 2 away taking the next position.  Trevor Schmidt struggled with the track all day; he came from near last in Moto 1 to finish 26th. Then, in Moto 2 he caught a rut and twisted his ankle; he fought as long as he could but ultimately had to pull off early.  Even with a DNF in Moto 2, Trevor finished 30th overall for the day.

In their words:

Romain Pape: “Enjoying my day out at Southwick sands.  Gave it all to get those few second leg points after a fall to the start! Another ton of learning today and glad to see I’m progressing week by week.  Spring Creek next week, on one of the most beautiful fields of the season.  Can’t wait to be there.”

Trevor Schmidt: “Southwick was a tough one.  Moto 1 came from way back to 26th.  Moto 2 I twisted my ankle early on and tried to keep going just couldn’t finish it out.  Gonna heal up the ankle and get back on the track.”

Hunter Cross: “Southwick! Man that track was brutal I had to much fun racing it, felt better every time I was on the track! Moto 1 P25, Moto 2 first lap two riders went down right in front of me barely missed them but then got my first wheel stuck in a fence.  Finished the moto but far back.  Massive thank you to everyone who helps out and supports me you guys are the best!”

Thank you to our amazing team of sponsors who support our riders on their Professional Journey!
