TPJ Racing – Pro Motocross – Round 7

Spring Creek located in the beautiful Mississippi River Valley has the perfect combination of terrain, location and owner dedication making this facility a rider and fan favorite.  One of the most popular features of this track is the back-to-back stretch of sand whoops and infamous “Whoop Monster” who can be seen cheering on the riders dressed in full swamp attire.

250MX rider, Hunter Cross had a phenomenal weekend at Spring Creek; while teammates Brian Saunier and Logan Boye struggled to find their rhythm during qualifying.  Hunter had his season best qualifying (26th place) and was feeling very comfortable on the bike and track.  He started both Motos outside the top 30 but fought the entire thirty- minutes plus 2 laps to finish 29|26 for 28th overall.  He continues to work on improving each week and it is paying off.  He’s hoping to break into the top 20 at Washougal.

On the 450MX side of the team, Romain Pape came out swinging in practice, locking in the 23rd fastest time of the day.  In Moto 1, he got a mid-pack start and immediately began fighting for positions when a defective CDI case caused his bike to stall and left him with a DNF (did not finish).  His mechanic went to work restoring the bike to working order again, and in Moto 2 Romain got another great start.  This time, his bike held up and he continued his battle on the track to finish in 16th place.  He ended up 19th overall for the day and earned 6 series points; he currently sits in 17th place in the Championship.

Trevor Schmidt had a similarly challenging day; from not feeling 100% during qualifying to getting a bad start in the consolation race all meant making the days Motos unreachable for him at Spring Creek.  The silver lining is that he was able to recover from his start in the consolation race and fight hard for those brief 4 laps to make up 6 positions.

There are only four rounds left as the series heads to the Pacific Northwest for the Washougal MX Park National.  We hope to see you there.

In their words:

Romain Pape: “Never two without three…the proverb rarely lies.  Another day in half shade from abandonment at the beginning of the first round after the bike stopped dead and never restarted. (defective CDI case) while I was in 15th.  A correct start from all the way outside in the second round and a good round where I did my best to snatch a 15th place!  Back in the dark earth next weekend, it will do good!”

Hunter Cross: “All smiles at Spring Creek, one of the most fun tracks I’ve ever rode.  I had so much fun racing Saturday!  Huge improvements this weekend, need to get a start.  Looking forward to Washougal this weekend.”
