Arriving in Detroit, Michigan, for the fifth round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship, the Gizmo Mods/Rock River/Yamaha team would begin their quest for solid finishes amid Saturday’s program with confidence. Their preparations for conquering the layout at Ford Field were extraordinary, and they immediately proved that the effort(s) of all involved were elite as the green flag waved for qualification rounds at Ford Field.
Michigan’s own Marshal Weltin, was aspiring to perform at the highest level for the opening round of the 250SX East Coast Series. Displaying tremendous skills amongst the difficult terrain of this specific course, Weltin transferred into the evening show with superb times in practice, which led to a score of fourteenth being generated in his heat race. His speed amongst the ten-lap showcase was remarkable — and proved that he had what it took to qualify, as the gate(s) then fell for the LCQ. Within the aforementioned critical qualification format, Weltin thrived, racing his way to a score of third in the final standings, which transferred him to the main event. Once there, his commendable navigation through the first few laps and ability to stay consistent throughout the entire moto equated to one of the strongest feats of his career — earning a ninth-place score at the checkered flag in front of his home crowd.
Devin Simonson returned to the racetrack in Michigan with determination, proving that he was one of the fastest in the field with an immediate transfer to the heat races following a notable array of practice times. Battling amongst heat two of the 450SX class, Simonson raced to an impressive standing of twelfth on the final leaderboard, before moving on to the Last Chance Qualifier. Charging forward within the high-stakes sprint, Devin continuously strove for higher position(s) while demonstrating one-hundred percent effort. And upon taking the checkered flag in ninth place, he would move forward to the approaching rounds of the series with confidence.
The number 900 of Keegan Rowley sped onto the Detroit layout with tremendous self-belief, and instantly appeared to be comfortable on the technical SX course of Ford Field. Leaping and skimming the whoops at the highest of velocities, Rowley’s ability to carve through the sand thereafter was extremely proficient — and proved that the Yamaha rider is destined to be battling for main event bids in the weeks to come.
With round five of the Supercross series now completed, the team of Gizmo Mods/Rock River/ Yamaha will immediately being their quest of traveling to the sixth venue on the circuit. They’ve consistently established themselves as one of the strongest teams in the sport, and will carry that tradition throughout the rest of the championship as well.
