For the second round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship, the Gizmo Mods/Rock River/Yamaha team would travel to San Diego to compete within the prestigious Snapdragon Stadium venue. With athletes in both, the 250SX and 450SX classes, every member of the Yamaha unit would put forth an extraordinary effort en route to obtaining tremendous accolades throughout the night show.
New York’s T J Albright accelerated with sensational velocity during each practice session, and proceeded to sprint onto the raceway for heat two of 250SX competition with outstanding line selection. His ability to remain efficient was notable, and led to a score of ninth being sustained as the race would end. In the main event that followed, Albright’s ambition couldn’t be denied, and ultimately propelled the Yamaha rider to a standing of sixteenth as he exited the raceway.
The number thirty-five of Marshal Weltin was outstanding throughout practice, and sustained his efforts through heat two, alongside some of the best in the 450SX class. The track would be technical, but the expertise of Weltin flourished as he eventually earned a final result of thirteenth. In the LCQ that followed, the Michigan native attacked the race-track with remarkable resiliency, speeding from start to finish to secure an eventual result of thirteenth, respectively.
California’s Austin Politelli would soar amid practice sessions, and generate a significant amount of momentum prior to embarking on heat number one of the 450SX program. Politelli would contend for an elite level position, surging forward as each minute would pass, which led to a score of twelfth being clinched at the finish line. The Last Chance Qualifier would follow, and Politelli’s ability to charge throughout the field was applauded by the crowd – and preceded a commendable final result of ninth.
Grant Harlan’s talent within the 450SX class would be displayed throughout practice laps, where the Yamaha athlete generated a transferring bid into heat number one of the night show. As gate(s) fell, Harlan’s awareness provided an optimal landscape to make passes and generate superb lap-times – and those circuits were sustained through the checkered flag, which created a final result of tenth. Harlan was then determined to race through the Last Chance Qualifier with the highest effort, and would do so as he swept among the countless berms on the San Diego circuit. After contending for a transfer position, a slight bit of misfortune would force him outside of the top-ten with only laps to go. Yet, the final result of fourteenth remained impressive and was a feat to build from in the coming weeks.
Modesto’s Kyle Wise launched throughout the San Diego circuit with incredible skill, which translated to a notable run in 250SX heat two as well. His ability to charge, even with encountering a bit of adversity, would lead to a score of twentieth being earned at the finish line. The LCQ would be the next format to compete within, and Wise accelerated with a determined mentality as he and opponents battled throughout the top-twenty. As all was finalized, it was Wise who claimed eighth-place, respectively.
Upon completion of the competition in San Diego, the Gizmo Mods/Rock River/Yamaha team is set to return to Anaheim for next week’s event at Angel Stadium. With the knowledge and experience that’s been acquired thus far in the Supercross series, all involved within the Gizmo Mods/Rock River/Yamaha unit are guaranteed to excel within the racing format on Saturday.
