Every European racer has aspirations of building a successful career in the United States, and for Swedish privateer Anton Nordstrom, that dream is becoming a reality.
After racing for the CREO team in the GT Arena Motocross series to start the year aboard a KTM 300 2-Stroke, Nordstrom was offered an opportunity to ride for the Dream Chasers Racing effort, in the remaining West Coast rounds aboard a Yamaha YZ250F.
The Swede competed in some supercross events last year, coming close on two occasions but ultimately falling just short of qualifying for a main event. His first attempt at an AMA Supercross in 2025 was at this past weekend’s Arlington Triple Crown, and what a night it was for the privateer.
EH: Anton, first main event of your career, qualifying 14th! You must be over the moon with how your day went
Anton Nordstrom: “First main event of the year, qualified 14th, super happy about that. I was stressing out after qualifying, seeing my time drop with the A group out, and when they were done, I was still 14th. I was like, wait, what? Did I make it? There were some happy tears, I’m over the moon, so stoked to make the main event after being close two times last year.”
EH: You have been busy to start the year, racing Arenacross, has this helped you progress in supercross?
Anton Nordstrom: “Yeah, I raced the GT Arenacross Series on a KTM 300 2-stroke, it was pretty hard to race Arenacross on a 2-stroke! But it was fun. For sure, the Arenacross helped, but the weather in Kansas [where I live] has been horrible the past two months, so I haven’t been able to practice during the week, only racing on the weekends.”
EH: How was the transition to the Yamaha, did you have much time to prepare heading into Arlington?
Anton Nordstrom: “The transition from the KTM to the Yamaha was pretty easy. I have only had one day of riding on the Yamaha before this race, I wanted to have more but I had an injury a couple weeks ago so I wasn’t able to go to Cali to test the bike.
“I only had Tuesday before the race [to ride], and the Yamaha felt amazing, it was so easy to get back on the 4-stroke after racing the 2-stroke. I think once I have more time on the bike, I am going to get better for sure.”
EH: Lastly, now you’ve made your first main event, does this change your expectations for the remaining West Coast rounds?
Anton Nordstrom: “My goal for the supercross season is to make the main events, that goal is still the same. Now I know that I am capable of doing it, so, I have more confidence in myself for sure! It was a Triple Crown [in Arlington], so I did three main events, the first two were horrible [main events] because I was so nervous. The last one was much better, I was actually fighting the guys at the back of the pack.”
The Dream Chasers Racing team operates out of Lake Elsinore, California, and is led by team owner Richard Todd and team manager Tarvo Jurima. 2025 marks their first season competing on the AMA Supercross circuit, and in just four races, they’ve achieved their goal of reaching the main event. A tremendous effort for all involved
Although there is a break for the 250SX West competitors, Anton is currently making his way to Florida to compete in the 450SX class at Daytona.
