Round 9 of the SuperMotocross World Championship brought the series to Indianapolis, Indiana, where Lucas Oil Stadium hosted an exciting Triple Crown format for the evening program.
In the 250 class, Noah Viney turned in his best qualifying performance of the season so far. Viney placed 25th overall in qualifying, just 0.8 seconds off the final direct transfer position (18th) into the main event. With the tight timesheets, Viney was forced into the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ). When the gate dropped, Viney rocketed his Kawasaki out front, grabbing the holeshot and leading
the opening lap. He remained in the fight for a transfer position inside the top five until lap five, where a small mistake led to a crash. Unfortunately, another rider became tangled in the incident. Banged up but not injured, Viney remounted his KX and finished the race 19th.
In the 450 class, Vince Friese entered the weekend feeling less than ideal following a heavy training crash earlier in the week. Determined to line up for the night show, Friese raced his way into the main event through the LCQ, where he delivered a wire-to-wire victory. Once inside the Triple Crown main events, Friese consistently powered his Southeast Sales Powersports Kawasaki down the long Indianapolis start straight, entering turn one inside the top three in all three races, despite less-than-ideal gate selections. Still battling the effects of his mid- week crash, Friese fought through the first two races to record 15th-place finishes.
In the final race of the night, Friese dug deep and pushed all the way to the checkered flag, finishing 12th. His consistent results earned him 13th overall on the night, making him the top Kawasaki 450 finisher of the evening.
With the series heading into its only two-week break of the season, the ISRT Kawasaki team and its athletes will use the time to regroup and return focused on continuing their recent progress when racing resumes.
