The 2026 AMA Pro Motocross Championship officially got underway this weekend at Fox Raceway in Pala, California, with the AEO Powersports KTM Racing Team showing determination and promise as riders Carson and Avery kicked off their outdoor season.
Carson put together an impressive qualifying effort, posting the fifth-fastest time of the day and demonstrating strong speed from the opening sessions. The result secured him a favorable gate pick and positioned him well heading into the motos. Avery qualified 34th overall, successfully transferring directly into the motos but recognizing the need to improve his qualifying pace to secure better gate selections moving forward.
Moto 1
Neither rider got the start they were looking for in the opening moto. Carson crossed the holeshot line in 16th and immediately went to work through the field. After completing the opening lap in 17th, he quickly climbed to 13th before continuing his charge into 11th by lap 11. Carson maintained a strong pace through the remainder of the moto to secure an 12th-place finish.
Avery began Moto 1 buried in the pack, running 21st on the opening lap. He showed encouraging speed early, working his way into 17th before the midway point. Still working his way back to full fitness following injury, Avery faded slightly in the latter stages of the race and ultimately finished 20th.
Moto 2
The second moto presented another challenge for Carson, who once again found himself outside the top ten after the start, completing the opening lap in 17th position. Remaining patient and focused, Carson steadily worked his way through the field, making key passes throughout the race. With four laps remaining, he moved into ninth place and held the position to the checkered flag, earning a top-10 moto finish.
Avery’s second moto became even more difficult after getting caught up in a first-lap crash. After remounting, he completed the opening lap in 30th position. Despite the setback, Avery stayed consistent and continued to push forward throughout the race, making up valuable positions while riding smart and mistake-free. He crossed the finish line in 25th place.
Looking Ahead
The opening round provided a solid foundation for the AEO Powersports KTM Racing Team. Carson leaves Fox Raceway sitting 11th in the championship standings and will focus on improving his starts as the series progresses. Avery, currently 25th in points, continues to build strength and race fitness as he returns from injury.
The team now shifts its attention to Round 2 of the 2026 AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Hangtown Motocross Classic in Sacramento, California.
