The AEO Powersports KTM Racing Team overcame the demanding conditions of Round 5 of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship at The Wick 338, with Carson Mumford maintaining his place inside the championship’s top 10 and Avery Long delivering his strongest performance of the 2026 season.
Known as one of the toughest stops on the Pro Motocross calendar, Southwick’s deep sand, high temperatures, and physically demanding layout tested every rider throughout the day.
Mumford entered the weekend knowing Southwick’s unique sand conditions weren’t among his favorites, but he delivered another consistent performance aboard his KTM. In Moto 1, he launched off the gate with another impressive start, crossing the holeshot line in sixth. Continuing what has become a strength this season, Mumford held sixth through the opening laps before settling into the race as the demanding circuit took its toll. He regrouped late in the moto, making a final-lap pass to secure 10th.
Facing mounting fatigue and soaring temperatures in Moto 2, Mumford found himself buried in 24th after the opening lap. Refusing to back down, he mounted an impressive charge through the field, gaining 13 positions on one of the most challenging tracks on the schedule to finish 11th. His 10-11 moto scores earned him ninth overall for the day while allowing him to retain ninth in the AMA Pro Motocross Championship standings.
Long also enjoyed a weekend of progress, beginning with his best start of the season in Moto 1. Starting 13th, he battled inside the competitive midfield throughout the opening stages before ultimately finishing 18th after the demanding conditions began to take their toll.
In Moto 2, Long showed resilience after an early tip-over dropped him outside the top 20. He regrouped quickly and steadily worked his way forward, climbing back to 18th by the checkered flag. His consistent rides resulted in 19th overall, marking his best overall finish of the season and another positive step forward in his development.
The Southwick National highlighted the continued progress of both riders, with Mumford remaining firmly inside the championship’s top 10 while Long continued building momentum with improved starts, stronger race pace, and his best overall finish of the year.
