What is a privateer? Wow, what a loaded question. In the sport of motocross/supercross, it can be said that a privateer is a rider that does not receive any “factory” support for their racing efforts. But that is where the lines can be blurry.
What if the team buys factory motors or suspension? Are they factory or privateer? What if they have a great title sponsor and race out of a semi? It can be argued that they are not true privateers, but they are not truly factory either.
So what to do? I started this site to share the privateer racer’s stories and their highs and lows and ups and downs. We share vlogs, photos, results, and stories of the racers that compete in the Monster Energy Supercross Series or Lucas Oil Motocross Series regularly with that goal in mind. Our goal is to help them tell their story and get it out to the world. This website isn’t a business taking in thousands of dollars in advertising; it’s just one guy (me) trying to make a difference.
Since the line is cloudy, for this website’s sake, in 2021, these are the teams that we consider factory. Everyone else is a “privateer.”
