Round 5 – 2025 AMA Pro Motocross Championship | Southwick

The AEO Powersports KTM Racing Team rolled into Southwick for Round 5 of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship, fully aware of the challenges that lay ahead. Known as one of the roughest and most physically demanding tracks on the circuit, Southwick’s deep sand and ever-changing ruts test even the most seasoned riders—especially those who don’t often get the chance to train in such conditions. Despite the odds, the team approached the weekend with determination and grit.

Qualifying

  • Avery Long – 22nd 1:12.440
  • Lux Turner – 21st 2:11.974
  • CJ Benard – 37th 2:14.256

Lux Turner
Moto 1
: Lux came into the weekend with a focus on strong starts and he delivered. A solid jump off the gate put him just outside the top 10, in 13th after lap 1. Battling fiercely between 13th and 17th throughout the moto, he clocked his fastest lap on lap 6 and ultimately finished 17th.
Moto 2: A tougher start in Moto 2 saw Lux get pinched off and shuffled back to 21st on lap 1. He made a solid push forward to 17th by lap 6, but deteriorating track conditions and second-moto fatigue dropped him to 20th by the checkered flag.

Avery Long
Moto 1
: Avery had a rough start to the day, getting caught in a first-turn pile-up that sent him to 36th after lap 1. Undeterred, he put on a charge through the pack, gaining 13 positions to finish 23rd—an impressive recovery on one of the most difficult tracks on the schedule.
Moto 2: A cleaner start saw Avery in 23rd early on. With consistent forward momentum and smart riding, he clawed his way up to 15th by lap 10. Despite a late-race fade from fatigue, he still finished a strong 17th to close out the weekend.

CJ Benard
Moto 1
: CJ had a mid-pack start in 28th and was showing signs of speed, logging his fastest lap on lap 4 before suffering the first of two crashes that would hamper his progress. The unpredictable terrain got the best of him, and he wrapped up Moto 1 in 33rd.
Moto 2: A first-lap tip-over had CJ starting from the very back in 39th. Digging deep after a tough Moto 1, he made steady progress through the field and reached 27th by the end—a commendable ride on a day when many struggled to simply finish.

Next Stop: RedBud – Round 6
The team heads to one of the most iconic rounds of the season, REDBUD for Fourth of July weekend. It’s a fan-favorite stop, known for its electric atmosphere and patriotic celebrations. The AEO Powersports KTM Racing Team is excited to fly the red, white, and blue with a special setup and is ready to put on a show for the holiday weekend.
