Gizmo Racing Yamaha – Houston SX Report

Round 4 brought us to NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas for a special Triple Crown event. Unlike the traditional format of heat races leading to a single Main Event, the Triple Crown features afternoon qualifying followed by three Main Events in the evening. This format is especially demanding on both racers and teams, with fewer opportunities to qualify and minimal time between races during the fast-paced night show.

After two timed qualifying sessions, both of our racers, Freddie Noren and Keegan Rowley, found themselves outside the top 18. That meant each would need to line up for a Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ), where a top-four finish was required to advance to the evening Main Events. These LCQs take place immediately after qualifying, leaving little time for debriefs or setup changes.

First up was the 250 LCQ with Keegan Rowley. While heading to the gate, the team learned that a rider already qualified inside the top 18 had withdrawn due to injury. Per the rules, this opened up an additional transfer position, meaning Keegan now needed a top-five finish to qualify for his first career Main Event.

After the gate drop, Keegan rounded the first turn near 10th place. He stayed focused and began charging forward on the difficult, technical Houston track. With only a few laps remaining, he moved into fifth place, with fourth and third just ahead. On the final lap, the team signaled that he was safely in, no need to force a risky pass. Keegan rode smart and brought it home, officially qualifying for his first-ever Main Event.

Next was Freddie Noren’s LCQ, with the opportunity to make it the first weekend both of our racers qualified for the Main Event. A poor start left Freddie near the back early, with only four minutes and one lap to fight his way into a top-four transfer spot. Despite deteriorating track conditions; rough, rutted, and unforgiving after multiple qualifying sessions, Freddie pushed forward, consistently hitting technical rhythm sections few others could manage.

He worked his way into fifth place on the final lap, just one position shy of transfer. Attempting a move through the whoops, Freddie made a small mistake and went off track, ending his charge just outside the transfer spot. While the result didn’t go his way, his speed, determination, and race craft were on full display. Improving starts will be a focus moving forward, as his riding is strong and the results are close.

In the three 250 Main Events, Keegan Rowley finished; 19–22–19, earning 21st overall. That performance secured his first championship point and, more importantly, his first Main Event finish of his career.

A big step forward and plenty to build on as the season continues.

Freddie Noren #63

“I’m making improvements though it’s not showing on paper yet, but we’re inching closer. I made a few smaller mistakes this weekend that kept me out of the Main Event. I’m excited to continue putting my laps in and be in the Main Event Next Weekend.” said Freddie Noren after the event.
Keegan Rowley #900

“It was a dream come true to be in the Main Event tonight! I’ve been slowly building and now can see the progress. Now I just need to continue to progress as we go onto the next one.” said Keegan Rowley after his night.
